To accommodate the need for group work which requires the use of technology, the Office of Information Technology offers Collaborative Technology Rooms. These rooms are located in the Academic Computing Building (ACB) and in the basement of the Harper building. Currently, ACB 122, ACB 124, and Harper 12 are the only Collaborative Technology Rooms that can be reserved. To reserve these rooms, contact the student worker located in ACB 118 or Harper 8, or send an email to cgu.learning@cgu.edu from your CGU email address. Please only send an email for a reservation that will occur in 24 hours or more. Also, this email address is not monitored on the weekends.
The following is the policy pertaining to the use and reservation of the Collaborative Technology rooms.
Purpose
- The Collaborative Technology Rooms are small rooms intended for use by Claremont Colleges students and faculty who wish to collaborate in a group for a project or for other academic work which require the group to use computers.
- Each Collaborative Technology room contains four computers, one of which can be displayed on the large TV. The computer that can be displayed on the large TV will be labeled “Display Station”. The computers have the same software as is in our computer labs, and can be used to play CDs and DVDs.
- Each Collaborative Technology room contains a whiteboard. Students must bring their own dry erase markers.
- Each Collaborative Technology room contains an input panel, which allows for the connection and the display of a student’s laptop on the large TV. Students will need to check out a computer video cable from ACB 118 to make this connection.
Reservation Policies
- Groups of two or more Claremont Colleges students and faculty may reserve a Collaborative Technology room for only 3 hours. After the reservation has ended, the group can make another reservation for another 3 hours if the room has not been reserved by another group.
- A reservation made by a Professor for academic purposes has priority.
- Collaborative Technology rooms can not be reserved more than 1 week in advance.
- Collaborative Technology rooms can be reserved by email only if the email is from a cgu.edu email address. The email should include the student’s full name, his/her CGU student ID #, the academic department, contact phone #, and the usual information (date, time, etc).
- If the group that reserved the Collaborative Technology room does not arrive within 30 minutes of the reservation time, then the reservation is cancelled, and the room is made available to other students and faculty on a first come first served basis.
Usage Policies
- The Collaborative Technology rooms are designated for group collaboration, not for individual study. Individual students may use a Collaborative Technology room if it is not reserved, but please be gracious and surrender the room if requested by a group.
- Students may not use the Collaborative Technology room to play video games or to view videos for non-academic purposes.
- As a courtesy to other students and faculty, groups using the Collaborative Technology rooms are asked to keep the noise level down.
- Please do not leave your valuables unattended in the Collaborative Technology rooms at any time. We are not responsible for any items that are left unattended in the rooms. If we find items left unattended for an extended time, we will bring the items to Campus Safety and throw away food items.
- When you are finished using the Collaborative Technology room, please pick up any trash, clean the white board, and return any borrowed items.
- Unless you have a reservation for the room, you are not allowed to leave the room for an extended amount of time with the computers locked under your name. You must allow others to use the room when you are not using it. As noted above, if we find the room empty for an extended amount of time, we will throw away food items and bring other items to Campus Safety. The computers will be restarted for other students to use, which will result in the loss of any unsaved work.
